prophylaxis teeth cleaning AlpharettaOur Opalescence™ teeth whitening kits have a hydrogen or carbamide peroxide and offer results after one or two weeks. Our specialists take an impression of your mouth to create custom-fitted trays. You apply the whitening solution to the tray and wear it for an hour a day for one or two weeks. Since this is done without direct supervision from our dental staff, it is important to have all questions answered by our staff.

Why do your teeth get stained?

Some of the most common reasons for teeth to be stained include:
  • Age
  • Coffee, Tea, or Soda
  • Smoking
  • Abundance of Fluoride
  • Old Filling
  • Genetics

Is teeth whitening safe?

Studies have not shown any reason why teeth whitening would be dangerous to your teeth or health. Our dental team will be pleased to discuss this further with you to alleviate any concerns.

Can teeth with cavities or other problems be bleached?

For your comfort, we recommend treatment of cavities and gums first. Having a checkup before bleaching is the best way to ensure you are ready for the treatment. However, in general, only natural teeth will respond to the whitening gel; existing crowns, veneers and bonding will not brighten. As such, we often recommend that whitening be done before major cosmetic  treatments so that we match your brightened natural teeth.

Who is a good candidate for bleaching?

People with stains who want a fast path to a whiter smile are good candidates for this procedure. Our dentists do not recommend whitening for children under 16 years of age as the pulp chamber is still growing. Pregnant women are also advised to postpone bleaching.

How long do the whitening effects last?

Whitening is not permanent, but people who are able to avoid staining agents can often wait a year or more between treatments. Touch up supplies are available and cost-effective.Do you live in Alpharetta, Roswell, John’s Creek, Duluth, or North Atlanta and are you interested in a professional teeth whitening appointment?
