A Dentist Explains the Benefits of Choosing ClearCorrect Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are one of several discreet ways to straighten the teeth. They save many adults from enduring metal braces that scream for attention. Thanks to the clever use of dental trays, a person with slight orthodontic imperfections can straighten their teeth and nobody will be the wiser.
Do clear aligners outperform discreet orthodontic devices like tooth-colored braces? Do they have drawbacks that are absent from other kinds of orthodontic appliances? Read on to find out.
How clear aligners work
When a dentist clears a patient for ClearCorrect® aligners, they take medical images of the patient’s mouth. These include CAT scans and sometimes X-ray images. The dentist also takes digital intraoral scans of the patient’s mouth and feeds them, along with the medical imaging, into a computer that runs dental design software.
Using these inputs, the design software creates a 3D reproduction of the patient’s mouth in its current untreated state. The dentist then starts to realign each problem tooth in the digital model. In the first run, the dentist moves each target tooth only slightly. They save the new 3D model, which becomes a blueprint that fabricators use to create the first set of aligners.
The dentist then moves individual teeth in the new 3D model, and when they are satisfied with the result, they save it as the second iteration. This version of the model becomes the blueprint for the second set of aligners. With each successive adjustment, the dentist designs another set of teeth trays. The final tray resembles the final goal, which is a straight, even smile.
Why a dentist would recommend ClearCorrect® clear aligners
There are many benefits to choosing clear aligners like ClearCorrect® to straighten teeth. For starters, dental trays are discreet. They are tailor-made to fit over the teeth like a glove. The fact that they are made of transparent plastic allows them to completely fade into the background.
There are other reasons why a dentist would recommend clear aligners:
- In essence, clear aligners are teeth trays that a patient can wear and take off at will. This allows the wearer to eat and brush their teeth without the obstruction of an orthodontic appliance. Clear aligners make it easy to clean the teeth, the mouth and the dental trays themselves.
- Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners are compact because they are form-fitting. They also lack the bulky brackets and frame that come with regular braces.
- Clear aligners are a customized solution that a dentist can adjust to match a patient’s progress.
- The brackets and frames of traditional braces may rub against the inside of the mouth, causing soreness. This is not an issue with clear aligners.
- Clear aligners work as fast as regular braces. In some cases, they can straighten the teeth faster than traditional braces.
These are all great reasons why a patient would choose clear aligners over alternative orthodontic treatments. A common reason why a dentist would advise a different treatment is if the patient has orthodontic issues that need a more aggressive treatment plan.
